INNOVATIVE, PIONEERING MERGER TO BOLSTER
MENTAL HEALTH SERVICES AND ADVOCACY IN SUFFOLK
Added focus on the unmet behavioral health needs of returning veterans from the Middle East
What: Announcement of a new and innovative regional mental healthcare initiative in Suffolk County.
When: TOMORROW Wednesday, July 23, 2014, 10:30am
Where: 838 Erie Street, Ronkonkoma, NY (Map: https://goo.gl/maps/NJaAz)
Notes: Members and veterans will be on-hand for interviews. The announcement will be held outdoors on the grounds of a supported housing residence, adjacent to an organic garden maintained by Clubhouse members.
WHAT’S THE STORY??
* The issue of adequate healthcare for recently returning vets is center stage. This new, merged organization will help to better address the growing unmet behavioral health and addiction needs of homeless and at-risk veterans and their families.
* With recent tragic events (such as school shootings) involving people with mental illness, this organization aims to serve as a “go-to” source of public mental health information and advocacy as well as engaging people into services across Suffolk County.
* These three Suffolk-based non-profits — Clubhouse of Suffolk, Suffolk County United Veterans, and the Mental Health Association in Suffolk, will, through their combined capacity, become better able address the region’s behavioral healthcare needs well into the future.
* Like most non-profits they have been facing tough challenges as funding has becomes more scarce.
* Wednesday’s press conference will include the unveiling of the new organization’s name, logo, and mission; the culmination of a two-year effort operating under an integrated strategic partnership.
