HOLOCAUST SURVIVOR & NOTED AUTHOR TO SPEAK AT BELLPORT MIDDLE SCHOOL

Marion Blumenthal Lazan, imprisoned in Bergen-Belsen where Anne Frank died,
to offer an inspiring message of tolerance and hope

At Bellport Middle School this Thursday, Holocaust survivor and author Marion Blumenthal Lazan will bring her moving first-hand account of life in Germany from Kristallnacht to life in Nazi concentration camps to liberation in April of 1945.

Eleven-years-old when her family gained its freedom, Lazan goes beyond the facts and describes her ordeal in ways that quickly draw students behind the barbed wire, transforming them into eyewitnesses to history.  She asks young people to be tolerant of others and not stereotype based on religion, race, or national origin.

Lazan stresses the importance of determination, perseverance, faith, and hope when working to overcome adversity.  She applies the lessons learned to society today cautioning students to be true to themselves and not blindly follow the leader.

Marion Blumenthal Lazan is co-author of Four Perfect Pebbles, an award-winning book about her childhood under Hitler’s rule.
